A longtime client of Ralph’s Radio recently contacted our team about adding a security system to their fleet of 2015 Ford F-550 service vehicles. These trucks have been outfitted with a nine-compartment, medium-height service and utility body to store tools and parts used to repair the company’s construction, mining and material handling equipment. After inspecting the vehicle and consulting with the owner, we designed a security system that would protect the truck while adding remote start capabilities to ensure their staff was always comfortable.
Compustar-based Ford F-550 Security System
The truck security system is based around a Compustar Prime T9 remote starter and alarm. Our team integrated the system into the vehicle wiring, ensuring that each connection was both electrically and mechanically secure so the system will function reliably for the life of the vehicle. The T9 remote system includes a long-range remote control that delivers almost a kilometer of range. This remote has an LCD screen that will let the driver know at a glance if the truck is locked or running, thanks to the two-way communication system.
When a button is pressed on the remote, a signal is transmitted to the truck. Once the command (such as lock, unlock or remote start) has been received, the hardware in the truck sends a signal to the remote and it beeps while updating the information on the screen. If the alarm system is triggered, the remote will notify the driver instantly by beeping and flashing an icon on the display screen.
Toolbox Protection Solution
Our installation team added heavy-duty magnetic switches to each of the nine compartments on the back of the truck. The installation required the selection of a proper location for each magnetic switch so that its presence wouldn’t interfere with the storage and functionality of the compartment. We tested each location thoroughly before mounting the cast aluminum housing to the truck and running the flexible stainless-steel conduit to the brain of the security system.
