A client from Vancouver contacted Ralph’s Radio about a Ferrari custom-installed laser and radar detector for his new 2016 488. Our company works on many luxury and exotic vehicles, and the client had heard positive things about us. We discussed goals and aspirations for the project and then gave him a proposal that he liked, so we set a time to begin the installation.
The Escort 9500CI Platinum Is the Basis for the Install
In this Ferrari, the unwavering goal was to make the installation look like a factory option while still giving the client unsurpassed protection. For this reason, we chose the Escort 9500CI Platinum with optional rear laser shifters. The client gets topnotch sensitivity on all radar bands, as well as protection from laser-based radar (LIDAR).
Front Sensors Are Practically Invisible
In the front of the 488, we installed the front radar receiver behind the front bumper, in a hidden location yet unobstructed from anything that may affect performance. We mounted the two laser shifters strategically behind the front mesh on either side of the vehicle, perfectly aimed at the road ahead. We mounted aach of these three sensors securely into the vehicle and soldered all wiring with protective heat shrink applied to the connection. We created protective looms to give a factory fit and finish, and mounted them to allow for easy servicing of the vehicle by the dealer.
Rear Laser Shifters Add the Ultimate in Protection
While it is true that your vehicle will be shot by a laser gun from the front most of the time, you want rear coverage for those rare other occasions. Our cusom fabricators installed a pair of Escort laser shifters above the rear license plate in a spot designed for optimum reception, yet keeping with the factory-looking theme. As was the work we did upfront, we soldered, heat-shrinked and loomed all connections for durability and ease of service.
Display Flushed into the Mirror
When it was time to install the products inside the vehicle, we flush-mounted the 9500ci display inside the rearview mirror. It is easy for the driver to see it out of the corner of the eye, yet is completely invisible unless it is showing a threat or changing a setting. We mounted the controller for the system to the steering column, giving the client convenient access to the controls should the need arise.
Delivering the Finished Vehicle to the Client
When the client first laid eyes on his finished vehicle, he had to look hard just to see any of our work. As he walked around the vehicle and saw the quality of the installation, it affirmed to him that he had chosen the right company for the job.
