A client from Vancouver contacted Ralph’s Radio in search of a 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider radar detector and laser defense system. The client was more concerned about radar than laser but wanted to cover both bases. We showed the client several options from Escort and explained the differences between them and explained his options for installation and system integration. Premium Radar Detector Solution
Custom-installed radar detectors typically outperform portable solutions because the radar receiver module is larger. Just as with radio frequency antennae, a larger receiving area means that more signal is picked up with less noise. The 9500ci system’s radar receiver has two dedicated antennae to further improve signal sensitivity. Our team mounted the receiver behind the front bumper cover.
Laser Sensors
The 9500ci includes a pair of Escort ShifterPro laser shifters. Unlike portable units that only offer laser detection, the ShifterPro system transmits a signal back to the lidar gun to confuse it. You have enough time to slow down and disable the system so that the officer can get a legal reading. We mounted the shifters parallel to the ground and aimed them directly forward to provide maximum performance and range.
System Installation
As with all of our installations, our team takes great care to route all of the wiring for the shifters, receivers and control modules in a fashion that mimics the factory wiring paths. We secure and protect the wiring so it will remain reliable while allowing the vehicle to be serviced easily. Serviceability is enhanced with the inclusion and thoughtful locating of quick-disconnects. Should the front bumper ever need to come off for servicing, the radar receiver and laser shifters can be unplugged quickly and easily. Every electrical connection is both electrically and mechanically secure, ensuring that the system will perform flawlessly for decades.

Once the installation was complete, we walked through the Ferrari 458 Spider radar system with the client. We showed him where we mounted the equipment and began training him on how the system works.
