A longtime client from Coquitlam recently dropped into Ralph’s Radio to inquire about a blind spot camera and dashcam solution for his 2018 Chevy Silverado Z71. The client had seen that a camera system was available from the dealership but, having dealt with us on several upgrades in the past, figured that we could offer equal functionality and a lot better value. He also wanted a front- and rear-facing dashcam solution installed to record video while he’s driving. We put together a simple and effective package for the client and, upon his approval, scheduled a date for the installation.
Camera-Based Blind Spot Monitoring System
The BlindWatch camera system we used on this Silverado includes a pair of cameras, new chrome covers for the side-view mirrors and a video interface that connects to the factory infotainment system in the dash. The system automatically detects when the turn signal is activated and instantly displays the appropriate camera image on the screen.
The cameras are angled so they can detect everything in the blind spot adjacent to the vehicle and out of the driver’s peripheral vision. This particular system is compatible with 2014 through 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and Sierra light-duty trucks with the 8-inch MyLink infotainment system or the 4-inch display. We have similar solutions for Dodge, Ram and Ford applications.
High-Quality Dashcam Adds Confidence
The client wanted a dashcam solution that included a rear-facing camera so that everything around the vehicle would be recorded while he drove. We installed the amazing BlackVue DR900S camera system on the windshield and back window. This camera features an amazing 4k-resolution forward-facing camera and a 1080p rear-facing camera and includes Wi-Fi connectivity that makes calibrating and configuring the system easy.
The owner can connect an iPhone or Android-based smartphone to the camera to instantly download video files and send them by e-mail or upload them to social media. An optional cloud service works with a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot to make the camera image viewable from anywhere the client would have internet access.
Safety and Security from Ralph’s Radio
With the camera system integration complete and testing finished, we let the client know that his vehicle was ready for him. We reviewed how the safety system worked and helped him connect his phone to the camera system. He was very happy with the results and loved the image quality from both systems. If you are in the Vancouver or Victoria area and are interested in a safety camera system for your car or truck, drop by Ralph’s Radio or contact our team by phone or e-mail using the information on our contact page.
