Ferrari 812 Superfast Radar System for Vancouver Client

A repeat client of ours from Vancouver recently visited Ralph’s Radio to discuss a 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast radar detector system. If you are a fan of BBC’s Top Gear, then you know that the brand new 812 Superfast is Ferrari’s latest grand touring monster. Powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12, the 812 Superfast can reach 100km/h in a neck-snapping 2.9 seconds. A momentary lapse of attention will have this gorgeous Nero Black coupe traveling well over the speed limit. The client wanted the best radar and laser protection system available.

The front bumper cover was removed to mount the radar and laser parts.

The controller was mounted within easy reach of the driver.

Tucked up and out of the way the display is still clearly visible.

To warn the driver about the use of X, K, and Ka-band radar, we installed a twin-antenna Passport radar receiver module coupled to an Escort 9500CI Pro controller. The radar receiver is located behind the front bumper of the 812 Superfast. The radar signals can pass through the bumper material unimpeded.

The controller for the 9500CI is mounted on the left side of the narrow center console, making it easy to access from the driving position. The display for the system is mounted above the rear-view mirror. This location provides easy visibility without distraction.

Laser Defense System

The radar receiver and laser shifters were mounted behind the bumper for a factory look.

The rear of the car is protected from laser by a pair of shifters.

Everyone in British Columbia knows that the real threat comes in the form of police laser systems. The Escort 9500CI Pro includes four laser transceiver modules that delay the police from being able to take a speed measurement until the client can slow down. We mounted the front laser transceivers to the forward crash bar behind the front bumper. The units have a clear line-of-sight through the open-mesh grille. The rear laser transceivers are mounted above the license plate on the rear of the vehicle.

Expert Installation by Ralph’s Radio

As with all of our projects, we integrate components into the vehicle with as much attention to detail as the quality of the hardware itself. We used OEM-quality Tesa cloth tape to bundle and secure all the sensor wiring as it runs through the vehicle. The control hardware is mounted to factory fastener locations, eliminating the need to drill any holes in the vehicle. The installation of this Ferrari 812 Superfast radar system doesn’t alter the car in any way, except provide it with protection.
