No matter how deep into the woods you travel, you can use your smartphone with the Wi-Fi hotspot provided by the Globalstar Sat-Fi2 from Ralph’s Radio in Vancouver or Victoria. When cellular coverage ends, the Sat-Fi2 is the perfect solution to let you browse, post, message or chat. Incredibly compact and built with the legendary durability that all Globalstar products are known for, this is the perfect connectivity solution for your remote office or base camp.
What Is the Globalstar Sat-Fi2 Wi-Fi Hotspot?
The Sat-Fi2 uses a bidirectional link with the Globalstar network of satellites to provide your team with internet connectivity at up to 72 kbps. Once set up, you can pair up to eight devices to the Sat-Fi2 to check the weather, send e-mails and share photos and files. The unit includes a GPS receiver so that you can include impressively accurate location information in your communications.
Coverage extends across the continental US and Canada up to roughly the 60th parallel north. Most of central and eastern South America, along with western Europe, has coverage.
SOS and Emergency Use
The unit is powered by a supplied 120V adapter and includes a built-in lithium battery. The battery provides up to two hours of talk time and 28 hours of standby time. If the power goes out, this should be enough time to send the appropriate notifications.
In the event of a life-threatening emergency, the Sat-Fi2 includes a dedicated SOS button behind a plastic panel that will notify the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC). GEOS can coordinate rescue and recovery with local police, Coast Guard and Search and Rescue teams. SOS communications include your GPS location and elevation.
Communicate with Ease from Almost Anywhere
Globalstar offers Sat-Fi2 desktop apps for Windows and Mac computers, along with iPhone and Android mobile devices. Once you’re logged into the Sat-Fi2, you can use internet services just as you would at home. You can also make a phone call from within the app or receive a call on the dedicated phone number that’s assigned to the unit when purchased.
The system supports a variety of messaging and e-mail solutions, including Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, Outlook, Hotmail, AOL, Microsoft Exchange and IMAP. Likewise, you can send and receive SMS messages through the app.
