If you can’t rely on cellular service or a landline, renting a satellite phone from Ralph’s Radio in Vancouver or Victoria will ensure that you can communicate with family and friends. Our fleet of Iridium 9555 and Extreme phones work anywhere in the world to help you work efficiently, travel confidently and explore safely.
What Is a Satellite Phone?
Satellite phones, as the name implies, communicate with a series of satellites that orbit the earth. We have partnered with Iridium Communications to offer its 9555 and Extreme handsets and service. These devices communicate with a brand-new network of 75 satellites that are in a low Earth orbit. As long as you have a clear view of the sky, your Iridium phone from Ralph’s Radio can be used to make or receive a phone call, anywhere on the planet.
Why Would You Need a Satellite Phone?
Our satellite phone rentals fall into three typical categories: business applications, world travelers and adventurers. Our commercial and government clients who work in mining, logging, oil and gas, and law enforcement need to communicate with their co-workers and superiors to complete their tasks. Whether deep in the forest or out a sea, our satellite phones deliver easy-to-use reliability.
Many of our clients have travel plans that will take them around the world. Our phones have kept clients in touch with family and friends while fishing or hunting in Northern British Columbia, on safari in Zimbabwe or while exploring the former Soviet Union.
If you are into extreme adventures, having a satellite phone isn’t just convenient, it can save your life. Recently, a group of people were snowed in while exploring the ice fields in Northern Alberta. Had they not been able to communicate with search and rescue teams, the situation may have become dire. Iridium satellite phones have been to the top of Mount Everest, battled the extreme winter weather on the Bering Sea and crossed the Sahara Desert.
The Ralph’s Radio Satellite Phone Rental
Renting a satellite phone is easy. You can choose the rugged Iridium 9555 or step up to the Extreme to add location-based SOS services. The phones come in a durable and weathertight Pelican case and include charging accessories. We print the phone number on the phone, on the case and on a set of laminated cards you can loan to family and friends who may want to stay in touch. We include detailed instructions on how to make calls using International calling codes.
We ask that everyone renting a phone leave a deposit that we refund upon the return of the phone in original condition. Other than that, you pay a daily service fee and a usage charge per minute of talk time. A week-long trip with a few short calls home to check-in costs less than $150.
