Ralph’s Radio in Vancouver and Victoria is a expert at remote car starters. People drive long distances to have us install one of these products in their car, truck or SUV. Since we have been in business since 1949, you could say we have seen and heard it all. Here are the top five remote car starter myths:
1. They Are Bad For Your Engine
This one couldn’t be further from the truth. Have you ever noticed when you first get into your vehicle that it doesn’t seem to have as much power as after the engine warms up a little? It is because vehicle manufacturers program their engine software to roll back the power until the fluids in your engine warm up and start flowing freely. In short, allowing your engine to warm up before driving away is good for it.
2. A Remote Car Starter Will Void My Warranty
This is simply not true. Ralph’s Radio works with several of the leading automobile dealers in our area, and they trust us to install our products in their client’s vehicles. So, if a remote starter would void a warranty, would they use us? When you come to us, you get the finest quality products backed up with legendary installation quality, giving you years of reliable use.
3. I Don’t Need Much Range As I Will Only Start It From Home
This is probably the single most popular myth we deal with on a daily basis. People who haven’t owned a remote start think they will only use it from home in the morning. The reality is this-once you go out to a warm vehicle one time, you will never want to be cold again. Buying a long range system allows you to use it at popular places like work, out to dinner, shopping, or at a social event.
4. Remote Car Starters Are Easy To Install
This myth may be the most dangerous one for you. In years past, a vehicle’s electrical system was very basic, and installing a remote start was pretty simple. Well, times have changed. Modern vehicles used multiplexed wiring systems that work over a network known as a CANBUS. If your installer knows how to properly integrate with them, life is great. If not, real damage can happen and your vehicle may end up stranded on the side of the road.
5. My Vehicle Is A Manual Transmission, So I Can’t Get A Remote Start
The reality is that Ralph’s can install a remote start on almost any manual transmission vehicle. Here’s how it works: You pull into a parking spot, place the transmission in neutral, and engage the parking brake while pressing the foot brake. You then wait a few seconds and turn off the ignition. The remote starter will have activated, and the engine stays running. After the last door is closed, the engine shuts off, and the doors lock. As long as none of the doors are opened, the engine will remote start as it knows the vehicle is still in neutral. For even more safety, we install a digital motion sensor that can detect as little as three inches of movement and will kill the engine if needed.
