Ralph’s Radio was contacted recently by a Vancouver business owner for assistance in upgrading his 1966 Ford Mustang stereo system. We had worked with this client previously on a one of his client’s Land Rover Defenders. He was impressed with the results of his client’s audio project, so he had no problem contacting us when it was time to upgrade the audio in his Mustang.
Sony Source Unit Installation
We mounted a Sony XAV-AX100 multimedia receiver with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the custom center console the client had installed in the vehicle. The source unit includes Bluetooth for audio streaming and hands-free calling, and the classic design of the radio blends nicely with the interior of the car.
JL Audio Speakers Upgrades
The client supplied us with a set of custom kick panels that have provisions for speakers. We changed the mounting angle of the speakers in the panels and wrapped them in black vinyl to match the rest of the interior. We also created a new set of mounts for the rear speakers and installed the client’s JL Audio C5-Series coaxial drivers in them.
Subwoofer Enclosure
After measuring the available space at the back of the trunk and checking that against the requirements for the Kicker subwoofers the client supplied, we began creating a custom enclosure. The subwoofers are mounted on the bottom and fire down into the trunk floor. We covered the interior of the trunk with a layer of Dynamat sound deadening before installing the enclosure.
Audio System Amplifier Installation
We mounted the trio of Pioneer GM-D9500F four-channel amplifiers on the rear of the subwoofer enclosure and loomed the interconnect and speaker wiring neatly around the amplifiers. Once the amps were in place, we finished wiring the vehicle for the client, bringing it to a fully operational condition.
Compustar Security System
We integrated a Compustar FT-6300 security system into the vehicle and installed motorized door lock actuators to provide keyless entry. The PRO T11 remote that controls the system provides up to 3 miles of range and can display alerts if the alarm is set off by the shock sensor or by someone opening a door.
Ford Mustang Stereo System Delivery
With the Ford Mustang stereo system complete, the client returned to Ralph’s Radio in Vancouver to check out his muscle car. The client was thrilled with the sound of the system and our installation. If your classic or muscle car could use a sound system upgrade, drop by our Vancouver or Victoria store. For more information, give us a call or send an e-mail using our online contact form.
