A client of Ralph’s Radio from Vancouver recently dropped by to investigate options for radar detection and laser defense systems in his 2018 Ford Mustang GT350R and his 2010 Audi R8. After discussing where and how he drove the vehicles, we designed a set of Escort MAX CI 360 systems that would deliver the features and performance he wanted. Read on to find out how we integrated this system into the client’s amazing Ford Mustang.
Custom-Installed Ford Mustang Radar Detector
The project started with the installation of the compact control panel on the dash of the Mustang, just to the left of the center console. This location is easily accessible while driving so the client can adjust the system or cancel the laser defense system when he’s sure he’s traveling at a legal speed.
Next, we mounted the display from the MAX CI 360 just above the rearview mirror on a small custom bracket. Just as with the system control panel, this location is inconspicuous but the display is easy to see when an alert is present.
Radar Receiver and ShifterMax Transceiver Installation
We mounted the front and rear radar receivers behind the front and rear bumper covers, making them invisible from the outside of the vehicle. High-frequency radar signals pass right through the plastic bumper unimpeded, so the system works fantastically.
The front ShifterMax sensors are mounted to the front fascia of the vehicle on the upper edge of the lower grille. Our installation team adjusted the sensors so that they were parallel to the ground and aimed directly forward to ensure maximum transmission range and signal sensitivity.
The rear sensors are mounted on either side of the license plate in custom-made acrylic pods. The pods ensure that the sensors are parallel to the ground while giving the system a clean and tidy look.
Escort Radar Detector System Wiring and Testing
With the sensors and receivers mounted, our technicians carefully ran the wiring through the vehicle to the master control module under the dash. All the wiring is secured to factory harnesses to make sure it won’t buzz or rattle while the client is driving.
The last step was to test the system with our Dragoneye radar gun to confirm that everything was functioning flawlessly. With the seal of approval from our technicians, the client returned to our store to pick up his Mustang GT350R and check out the radar system. The client was thrilled with the installation and eager for us to get started on an identical system in his R8.
