A member of the sales team at Vancouver McLaren contacted Ralph’s Radio to coordinate the installation of a radar detector and laser defense solution for their client’s new McLaren 570S. We explained the options available to protect the client from receiving speeding tickets and outlined how we could mount the display and control panel in the vehicle to ensure the system would be easy and intuitive to operate. Once we had a plan in place, the dealership delivered the car to our Vancouver location so we could begin the integration process.
McLaren 570S Radar Detector and Laser Defense Solution
The plan was to integrate an Escort MAX CI 360 into the McLaren. Our team set to work creating a mounting solution for the ShifterMax sensors on the front of the vehicle. They constructed steel brackets that bolt to factory fastener locations in order to locate the sensors in the massive side vents in the carbon fiber front fascia. The radar receiver is mounted in the lower grille area.
On the rear, our team mounted the sensors on either side of the cooling vent directly behind the engine. As is crucial with all laser transceiver installations, the sensors must be aligned perfectly in order to provide protection from police lidar and long-distance detection. Our team is not only fanatical about this process, but they also use our DragonEye Compact lidar gun to test the installation once it’s complete.
Radar Detector Control Panel and Display Integration
We originally had hoped to mount the display panel above the rearview mirror, but there wasn’t enough room in this vehicle. As such, we built a pod to the left of the mirror that mounts the display to the windshield. The pod is constructed of layers of milled acrylic plastic and finished with an automotive-grade textured paint.
The control panel for the system is located on the lower portion of the dash, just to the right of the steering column. This location can be accessed easily by the driver.
British Columbia’s Supercar Accessory Experts
Once the system was fully integrated into the vehicle and all of the control modules and wiring were secured in place, our team used our radar and lidar guns to ensure that the system functioned perfectly before contacting the dealership to let them know the vehicle was ready. If you’re interested in learning about how police use radar and lidar guns and want to find a solution to protect yourself from speeding tickets, drop into the Ralph’s Radio location in Vancouver or Victoria and talk to one of our solution consultants.
