Police radar systems work in both stationary and mobile applications. A RCMP cruiser can be driving towards you and the speed tracking system can still provide the operator with an accurate measurement of your vehicle speed. This makes them especially difficult to combat.

Lidar guns transmit pulses of invisible light to the object they want to measure and can accurately calculate the speed of the object, using the same Doppler shift technology used by radar systems. The light beam is very narrow and allows officers to target a single vehicle, even at 500 meters away.
Lidar guns are commonly used in the city of Vancouver and Victoria in what would be called speed traps or enforcement locations. Lidar guns need to be stationary, which helps make them more visible to drivers. The downside is, if you can see them, they can see you.

Depending on the model of ShifterMax you have, the shifting will either stop automatically after about four seconds, or you will need to cancel it manually. Either way, you need to let the officer take a reading of your vehicle speed to be left alone.
